About me and why I do what I do

Hi, I'm glad you're here

I'm Deanna and I'm a heart-based solo business owner, who specialises in supporting individuals and workplaces to increase their wellbeing and resilience in their life so that they can thrive no matter what life throws at them.

I am energized by what people can achieve when they work out what matters most to them and work towards something bigger than themselves.

I'm inspired by how resilient people can be when they are faced with adversity and can overcome what seems impossible and move forward and grow along the way.

A little bit about me

I am a coach, facilitator, and learning and development specialist. As a coach, I support individuals to increase their wellbeing and resilience as well as support them to navigate life and career transitions and work toward a life and career that is meaningful and aligned with their values and what matters most to them.

As a consultant and facilitator, I work with individuals and teams to design and deliver learning experiences and blended learning programmes that help everyone at work to be at their best and to face to the challenge and uncertainties that our workplaces are facing with increasing complexity and intensity.

My own career trajectory has been a colourful one. I started out working as a jeweller designer and maker, and after 7 years had my first career transition and moved into the fashion industry where started my own business as a freelance fashion designer and pattern maker.

After 10 years in the creative industries and feeling the need for a more meaningful career move, I changed careers and sectors again. What followed was 17+ years managing emergency humanitarian operations in South Sudan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Uganda, and Nepal as well as building governments and their partners capacity to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and other humanitarian emergencies.

I am a certified trauma-informed coach with the skills to support clients with past or existing experiences of trauma, and I am passionate about creating a safe space where clients feel deeply seen and heard and free to be their most vulnerable selves as they navigate their change journey.

Some of the strengths I bring to the coaching partnerships are in holding the client as whole and capable and showing unconditional positive regard. I create a safe and nurturing space and place a lot of importance on building a trusting and positive coaching relationship. Through awareness and my own inner work, I provide the right amount of challenge and accountability to support the change journey as well as compassion and support when faced with setbacks.

I am fascinated about the human brain, and how we have so much more power than we think we do in changing how we think and act. I studied inclusive design and how when we design for disabilities, we design for everyone. Mindfulness, self-compassion and learnt about positive psychology and how when we focus on our wellbeing, we become more resilient and can handle life's ups and downs.

Why I do what I do

To see someone stuck and unsure, to moving forward in life is one of the greatest gifts to witness. As Maya Angelou said: 'My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.'

We are so much more than our adversity. We are so much more than the beliefs that hold keep us stuck and hold us back from being the best version of ourselves. And some times, we just need the support of someone who can hold space for us to be our wholeselves, warts and all. To hold us as whole and create space for our vulnerability as we get closer to who we are and where we want to go.

I am passionate about supporting people to assess where they are then work out how to use their strengths and their values to find meaning, build authentic relationships, feel more engaged in their pursuits, experience positive emotions and live with health and vitality and thrive in life.

Who I work with

The people I work with enjoy doing purposeful work, but they aren't driven by work alone. They want meaningful connections and have an impact in their lives and within their community.

While they want to be financially secure, they value health over wealth - their own health, the health of their loved ones, their community and the planet. They tend to put other people first, but at the same time want to be the best they can be - to learn and grow as they age.

They are often hard on themselves - despite their achievements - and often experience imposter syndrome and sell themselves short. They struggle with confidence and self-doubt and compare themselves to others. They often place the needs of others above their own and struggle to say no.

They often find it hard to know and charge their worth. In business they often undercharge or do work for free. In the workplace they struggle to negotiate their worth and be compensated fairly for the work they do, and the contribution they make.

For those with their own business - or aspire to - they want to grow their business enough to find good clients, but don’t want to grow the business beyond themselves. Working alone, they often feel isolated and experience professional loneliness and want to connect with other like-minded people.

Ultimately, they are people that understand that life is a gift and you only get one shot at it. They're determined, despite all that comes their way, to live an authentic, meaningful life, with an open heart. Though this may be the harder journey, they understand that this is the way to live a good life.

*Trauma-informed coaching brings a trauma-informed lens to the coaching process. Trauma-informed coaching acknowledges that many of us have experienced trauma throughout our lives.

If you have experienced trauma in your life, trauma-informed coaching does not require you to talk about your experiences of trauma.

As a certified trauma-informed coach I am here to support you and see you as the person you are today, and to support you to engage with life as it happens and not as it was.
