A good life means different things to different people. While there is no one way to thrive in life, knowing ourselves enables us to make better choices and live a more fulfilling life in line with our values, strengths, and interests.

Creating transformative change for ourselves takes effort – but the effort is worth it as it leads to a life and work of more meaning. 

 

But of course, we cannot always control all parts of our life and have to deal with the changes it throws at us. When we focus on our wellbeing we can build our resilience and face life gracefully through challenging and uncertain times.

The people I work with want to live a balanced and values-driven life. It's important for them to do ethical and purposeful work and they want meaningful and supportive connections in all areas of their life. They want to show up authentically in their personal and professional lives.

They care about people and the planet and want to contribute to their community and society in some way. They value personal growth and like to learn and evolve as they progress in life.

​While they accept change is a natural part of life, some have experienced sudden and painful life disruptions that have altered the course of their life. During these times they are often left questioning who they are and how to move forward in a meaningful way.

Navigating Life Transitions

Change can be expected and wanted (e.g., a new job) or expected and unwanted (e.g., menopause). Change can also be unexpected and wanted (e.g., a promotion) or unexpected and unwanted (e.g., an accident or death of a loved one).

​

Whichever way we experience change, understanding the personal side of change and how we experience the different stages of a life transition, helps us to better cope with and move through a life transition process.

A Framework for Resilience

A focus on building and increasing our resilience helps to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and feelings of hopelessness. 

 

Being resilience also has a positive effect, with increased well-being, life satisfaction, healthier behaviours and greater optimism.

​

The Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania has identified 6 key skill areas to focus on to build our resilience and help us increase our well-being thrive in life.

Wellbeing is about human thriving, and increased wellbeing leads to greater happiness and life satisfaction. To thrive in our lives and at work, we need the skills and tools to help us live and work better.

​Practicing these skills helps us find greater peace of mind, live healthier, and thrive in a world that is uncertain and constantly changing. Positive Psychology and the work of Dr. Martin Seligman identifies 5 elements that help us thrive.
